Hastings Environmental Law Journal (“HELJ”), formerly known as West-Northwest Journal of Environmental Law and Policy, has operated for 28 years and publishes twice a year every winter and summer. Environmental issues affect every part of society and the law, and HELJ focuses on a diverse array of pressing environmental law and policy issues. In the 2021-2022 academic year, HELJ will focus on legal commentary for professionals interacting with the overlap of law and science and environmental justice.

HELJ fosters a sense of community that is not purely academic. The journal builds community through monthly happy hours, friendly office hours to support staff editors, and group attendance at the Yosemite Environmental Law Conference, among other activities. HELJ continuously strives to supply excellent scholarship through our articles and participation in symposiums. Moreover, our members come from diverse academic backgrounds and aspire to practice in all areas of the law, not solely environmental careers.

Please consider HELJ when deciding to join a journal. We are happy to answer any questions you may have, just email helj@uchastings.edu
