Elise Traynum is the General Counsel for the ACLU of Northern California. Prior to joining the ACLU, she served as the General Counsel for the University of California Hastings College of the Law for 15 years and worked as an associate, and then as a partner, in three Bay Area law firms. Among her many accomplishments and awards, she was inducted into the Hall of Fame of California State University San Bernardino in 2013. In 2010, she defended UC Hastings Law in Christian Legal Society v. Martinez, which was heard by the U.S. Supreme Court. She holds a JD from UC Hastings Law and a certificate in Higher Education Management from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
